A Tribe Called Quest is an American hip hop group, formed in 1985. It was composed of rapper/producer Q-Tip (Kamaal Ibn John Fareed, formerly Jonathan Davis), rapper Phife Dawg (Malik Taylor), and DJ/producer Ali Shaheed Muhammad. A fourth member, rapper Jarobi White, left the group after their first album but appears to have rejoined the group since 2006. Along with De La Soul, the group was a central part of the Native Tongues Posse, and enjoyed the most commercial success out of all the groups to emerge

“Jazz (We’ve Got)” is Jazz rap at its finest. With a mellow, snare-heavy beat and a haunting piano loop, as well as tripped-out lyrics and a simple chorus over the sparingly used, yet very soulful, jazzy trumpet sample. Although not the most popular, “Jazz (We’ve Got)” was one of a few sample’s on ATCQ’s 1991 classic, Low End Theory. The albums B-Side was the much more energized “Buggin' Out”, a perfect one-two punch, complemented by a classic, absurd music video that gets a nod from many hardcore hip hop fans.

We got the jazz [X4]

Verse One: Q-Tip

Stern firm and young with a laid-back tongue
The aim is to succeed and achieve at 21
Just like Ringling Brothers, I'll daze and astound
Captivate the mass, cause the prose is profound

Do it for the strong, we do it for the meek
Boom it in your boom it in your boom it in your Jeep
Or your Honda or your Beemer or your Legend or your Benz
The rave of the town to your foes and your friends

So push it, along, trails, we blaze
Don't deserve the gong, don't
