Painters from Kim Jong-un's elite art studio have come to London for the first time to display their work, and invited The Telegraph behind the scenes at the North Korean embassy to witness them at work.

The lovingly-rendered London scenes would not be out of place in any up-market gallery. In one image, two girls perch on a bridge over the Thames, smiling broadly in the late autumn sunshine. In another, a couple sit on a bench inside the National Gallery, absorbing the works around them.

The ruling party in North Korea is due to hold its first congress in nearly 40 years. Kim Jong-un will be officially proclaimed as the country's Supreme Leader.

Rupert Wingfield-Hayes travelled to the country as part of a humanitarian trip and reports from the capital, Pyongyang.

"We no longer have to take anybody's word for the suffering of ordinary people in the world's most isolated country. The barely believable, sometimes harrowing footage in last night's North Korea: Life inside the Secret State -- Channel 4 Dispatches enabled us to see it with our own eyes.

ITV News London got a rare invite into North Korea's UK embassy in Gunnersbury. It's one of the few embassies which is based in a suburban part of London.

The reason was for an exhibition of North Korean artists who had recently visited the capital to paint what they saw.

Luke Hanrahan reports for ITV News London.

In a few days' time, North Korea will open the most important political meeting in decades - the 7th congress of the Korean Workers' Party.
In the run-up to the meeting, a BBC team is in North Korea, travelling with a group of Nobel Prize winners who are there to promote peaceful dialogue. Rupert Wingfield-Hayes gained rare access to Kim Il Sung University in Pyongyang, the country's leading academic institution.
